KampOut! Is a traveling program of Kanakuk Kamps that “brings the exciting adventures in Christian athletics of Kanakuk to your community.” It is a day camp for children ages 5-12 hosted by 50 partners (primarily churches) around the country.
Despite there being well-documented problems of abuse occurring with the host-home model in other Kanakuk programs, KampOut! Day Camps asks that host churches provide “host homes” for roughly 30 staff members. Each host home must provide a place to sleep for at least three staff members. The host home model was used and promoted on social media channels as recently as the 2025 KampOut! season, even after chief operating officer Doug Goodwin had stated under oath in depositions that Kanakuk had “stopped asking” families to stay in their homes.
In 2022, First Baptist Church of West Plains, MO cut ties with KampOut! with the statement “Due to information that has recently been made clear to the leadership of First Baptist Church West Plains, our church has made the decision to not partner with Kanakuk Kamps for ministry until the truth of their knowledge about what happened with Pete Newman is openly confessed.”
